Bibliometrics and Citation Analysis: From the Science Citation Index to … – Nicola De Bellis – Google Books

I struggled through the first four chapters of this book which were occupied with the history of bibliometric research. The author breaks up the roots of the bibliometric discipline into three areas: empirical, philosophical, and mathematical. The most interesting part for me was the third chapter, which discusses the philosophical aspects. I recommend this book for anyone interested in getting a birds-eye-view of the field. It’s translated from the original work which was in Italian, so some of idioms don’t carry over very well but you’ll get the gist of his argument. Hopefully, I can make it back to the library to read the rest of the book someday soon.
